PMHS Senior Morgan McDaniel Receives JLP President’s Award Scholarship

Pelham Memorial senior Morgan McDaniel is this year’s recipient of the Junior League of Pelham’s President’s Award Scholarship. The annual scholarship honors a Pelham Memorial High School senior who has demonstrated outstanding volunteer service. McDaniel was honored at the JLP’s annual dinner May 19. A check in the amount of $2,000 will be presented by Virginia Hartmere, President of the Junior League of Pelham, at the PMHS awards ceremony on June 4.  Morgan has assumed a very active role in STAND, a Student Anti-Genocide Coalition, throughout high school. During her senior year, she became the STAND New York State High School Outreach Coordinator. In this role, she served as the liaison between the national organization and the local chapters, providing the New York chapters with answers to questions and strategies for greater success. McDaniel also planned a New York wide chapter retreat and held media and advocacy training workshops.In addition to her work with STAND, Morgan has rebuilt houses in New Orleans, taught English in Vietnam and educated children about world cultures at the Youth in Action World Fair. She has also worked with several local community organizations.The Junior League of Pelham is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.
