Junior League of Pelham Restores Martha Emmons Weihman Memorial Park

The Junior League of Pelham, helmed by a new 2009-2010 Board of Directors, is readying for a busy year full of fun and impactful community projects. President Virginia Hartmere and Planning VP / President-Elect Mary Beth Fisher head up the League’s slate and plan to build on the stellar accomplishments of the past, one of which you’ve probably noticed if you’ve been on Boston Post Road between Esplanade and Pelhamdale Avenues recently. The League, in partnership with the Village of Pelham Manor, has nearly completed the beautification of Martha Emmons Weihman Memorial Park. The League raised $245,000 for the park pretty-up, which includes benches, trash receptacles, walkways, chess tables, fences, landscaping and lighting designed to return this green space to its heyday as a tranquil, tree-canopied walking park, circa 1940. Next on the docket? A water feature will be installed. “The League would like to thank our amazing chairs Katie Stevens and Maria White, the Village and John Pierpont, Village Administrator, for their work on this amazing transformation,” says Hartmere. Go, linger and enjoy!  The Junior League of Pelham is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.
