The Junior League of Pelham’s Provisional Class Initiates the Teen Advisory Board and Kick-off Event, Teen Coffeehouse Night at the Town of Pelham Public Library

This year, the Junior League of Pelham’s (JLP’s) Provisional Class project beneficiary is the Town of Pelham Public Library (Library). As part of its project, the Provisionals are initiating a Teen Advisory Board (TAB) made up of Pelham teens, from grades 9 through 12, as a consulting body to the Library. TAB is a volunteer organization bringing together the Library staff with Pelham youth. TAB’s mission is to assist the Library in serving local teens by developing teen volunteer opportunities, implementing positive teen programs and events, and enhancing the young adult materials and resources of the Library.  An additional benefit is that students who volunteer for TAB will receive credit towards their community service requirements for graduation. Those participating in the events may also receive credit.

The TAB kick-off event, hosted by the JLP Provisional Class, is a Teen Coffeehouse Night, held at the Library on February 7, 2013 at 6:30 P.M.  During the event, teens will perform live acts such as poetry readings, acoustic music, theatrical scenes, and comedy in front of their peers.  Original student artwork will be on display at the performances.  The event will take place in the Library’s Program Room for up to 40 teens that have pre-registered. Refreshments will be served.

TAB is looking for members to develop exciting teen programs and volunteer opportunities at the Library.  For more information about TAB or to apply, please send an email inquiry via www.pelhamlibrary.org, under the Contact Information link, visit the Youth Services Librarian, Lillian Hecker, or call (914) 738-1234.

The JLP has a long history with the Library, including assisting the Library with fundraising efforts since its inception. Today, the JLP continues to support the Library through various programs.
