Fourth Annual Pelham Loves to Read Project

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Anneliese Turck,914-813-3496 Junior League of Pelham Kicks Off Fourth Annual  Pelham Loves to Read Project Luminary Lighting Event and Book Totes on Sale Now Through February 14thto Benefit Pelham Public Library and Pelham Education Foundation JANUARY 12, 2008; PELHAM, NYProceeds from the Junior League of Pelham’s fourth annual Pelham Loves to Read fundraiser will be split equally this year between the Pelham Public Library and the Pelham Education Foundation. In a slight variation of years past, the JLP will be hosting a luminary lighting event. (Note an area around the Pelham Public Library and elementary schools exclusively will be lit up at 5:00 pm on Valentine’s night, not Pelham residences.) Two new additions to the project this year include the sale of customized Vineyard Vines book totes featuring the Pelham Loves to Read logo on them. In addition, kids ages 0-8 are invited to a special reading ofThe Juggling Pugat the Pelham Public Library February 14 at 3:30 pm. Noted children’s illustrator and Pelham resident, Tom Murphy, will read his soon-to-be-released book, written by Sean Bryan. Those who purchase an exclusive Pelham Loves to Read book bag at the event will receive a free signed copy of one of Tom Murphy’s books. “We want to keep the spirit of the event alive all year,” said Mary Beth Fisher, chair of this year’s event. “By selling book totes with the Pelham Loves to Read logo, we want people to know that reading is a year round activity.”  To keep literacy and the spirit of the project visible throughout the year, the project will sell the book totes for $75. The totes typically retail for $95, over $30 of the proceeds from each bag will go towards fundraising efforts. Last year’s fundraiser yielded $10,000 worth of new books for the new Middle School Library, The project aims to raise at least that much again for this year’s recipients.
