Pelham Library Partners
Provides volunteers for Children’s Story Time at the Pelham Public Library. Additionally, the JLP will donate new “big” books for the children’s story time collection and organize a literacy promotion event with a children’s author or illustrator.

 

Amazing Afternoons Book Club
Provides four enriching afternoon programs at the Edward Williams Elementary School’s Amazing Afternoons program. Each afternoon session will be tied together under the theme of a book club. Topics to be included are healthy lifestyles (continuing the work of our Kids in the Kitchen project) and Going Green (coordinating with “Lets Go Green” Carnival project).

 

Let's Go Green Carnival
Host an annual “Let’s Go Green” Carnival at a Pelham elementary school in partnership with Pelham Green Task Force.

 

Community Service Associates (CSA)
Prepare and serve meals to CSA soup kitchen in Mt. Vernon.

 

My Sister's Place Holiday Party
Host a holiday party for the residents and children of My Sister’s Place domestic violence shelter.

 

Operation Happy Holidays
Donate gifts based on the wish lists of families in need at the Paideia Elementary School in Yonkers.

 

Pelham Community Pantry
Build a food pantry, collect food and staff the food pantry in partnership with Family Services of Westchester in Pelham.

 

Pregnancy Infant & Loss Support
This committee will coordinate with other Westchester Junior Leagues a Done-in-a-Meeting project to decorate memory boxes for local hospitals, which will be given to patients who have experienced the loss of an infant or pregnancy. The JLP, as well as other participating leagues, will select a local hospital to adopt for this project.

Time commitment: Members of this committee should be able to attend planning meetings, as well as help to facilitate the actual memory box decorating, which will be conducted at a regularly scheduled JLP

 

Pregnancy Care Center of New Rochelle
Host “transitional showers” for young women who live at the Pregnancy Care Center who graduate from their support program and provide volunteers to help staff the on-site nursery while residents attend school or work.

 

Downtown Pelham Improvement
Organize a clean-up and shop local event which will help to raise awareness and support the downtown area, inclusive of its vendors, local leaders, and residents.

 

Done in a Day/Done in a Night
Done in a day and/or done in a night projects serve a variety of needs in the community and provide JLP members with flexible volunteer opportunities throughout the year.
