Downtown Pelham Night

JLP THANKS COMMUNITY FOR PARTICIPATION IN DOWNTOWN PELHAM NIGHT

Residents and local businesses enthusiastically participated in the second annual Downtown Pelham Night, sponsored by the Junior League of Pelham on Friday, May 7. Fifth Avenue was closed from the Pelham Gazebo to the Pelham Art Center from 6-9pm so Pelhamites could browse shops that had stayed open late, listen to live music, view art by local middle and high school students and take an historical photographic tour of Pelham. Residents filled the street enjoying the beautiful evening, entertainment and time spent with local business owners and friends.

In an environment where businesses in nearby towns have been forced to close their doors, merchants in Pelham are appreciative of the pride that Pelham residents feel in their town and for the support of their businesses through events like Downtown Pelham Night. Christine Farahat from Gracious Living said, "It was another successful night! Events such as Downtown Pelham Night provide great exposure to the 'bricks and mortar' of our town. We hope that more Pelham residents will realize that you don't need to leave downtown Pelham to find everything you are looking for with the utmost service and convenience."

JLP President Virginia Hartmere adds, “The Junior League of Pelham has been committed to improving the Pelham community since 1941. We love the great community spirit of our town and the continual support of Pelham businesses and residents to making a difference. Because of this support and commitment, the town of Pelham has the Pelham Art Center, Pelham Children’s Center, the Pelham Public Library, Julianne’s Playground and the recently restored Martha Emmons Weihman Memorial Park. Thank you for coming out and showing your appreciation for our home town on May 7.”

A special thank you to event Co-Chairs, Tara Lyons and Mary McGowan, whose efforts made the event such a success. Lyons was thrilled with the evening, saying “planning this event with Mary McGowan was an extensive process in getting to know the community. It was deeply fulfilling for me, because there is a pride in Pelham's residents that shows in so many ways. We had a beautiful night, which topped off the festivities well!" Additional thanks to the JLP Downtown Pelham Night Committee, participating merchants, residents, Pelham Police Department, Pelham Larks, Pelham Jazz Ensemble, Pelham Community High School Band Ensembles, Pelham Music Arts, the Town of Pelham and Pelham Chamber of Commerce.

2010 Spring Gala - Thank You
More than 200 guests gathered at Siwanoy Country Club in Bronxville, New York, on the beautiful evening of April 24, 2010 to help the Junior League of Pelham celebrate the restoration of Weihman Park at the League's annual gala. Weihman Park project chairs Katie Stevens, Maria White and Alex Ablon were honored for their leadership of this highly successful project. Guests heard from Ned Weihman, benefactor of the current restoration and son of Clifford T. Weihman, the original park benefactor, as well as Junior League President Virginia Hartmere and Pelham Manor Mayor, Jay Hayes. The event reflected the community effort employed in the park restoration. Guests danced to local favorites Mary and the Boys and the Weekenders, and lovely flower arrangements from Pelham's own Greener by Design decorated the space. Additional photos from the event can be viewed on Domenica Comfort's website, www.DomenicaComfort.com.

Funds raised from the night's festivities, including raffles, live and silent auctions, will support the JLP's mission based and community outreach programs focusing on healthy families, education and Pelham improvement.
